Fortnite Birthday Cake Locations: Where to Find Them, How the Slices Work, and How to Finish the Quest Fast

Find the Fortnite Birthday Cake locations, learn how Cake Slices work, and finish the 4-slice quest fast before the 9th Birthday event ends October 1.

The Birthday Cake quest should be a freebie, but it can turn into an annoying trip across the map. Maybe you don’t know which locations have a cake, or which Cake Slices actually count. Maybe you can see a giant birthday cake sitting right there and still can’t find anything to eat.

Then there are the other players.

You drop in just to knock out a limited-time quest, spend a few minutes searching a POI, and someone else gets to the Birthday Cake first and eats every slice. That’s the worst.

Where to Find Birthday Cake in Fortnite and How to Eat It

Fortnite’s 9th Birthday celebration brings Birthday Cakes back to the game, along with a set of Birthday Celebration Quests that reward XP and free cosmetics. One of those quests asks you to eat four slices of Birthday Cake found at Named Locations.

So instead of wandering around and hoping, here’s what you need to know:

  • The Fortnite Birthday Cake locations
  • How the Cake Slices work
  • Which spots help with the quest
  • What to do when the slices aren’t where you expect them

The quick version:
Find a Named Location with a Birthday Cake > locate the Cake Slices around it > eat four slices > collect your 5,000 XP > move on to the next Birthday Quest.

The part that matters most is knowing where to land first.

Where to Find Birthday Cake in Fortnite

Birthday Cakes sit at specific locations around the island. You don’t have to roam around and hope you trip over a slice.

When you get to one of the event locations, look for a large Birthday Cake surrounded by smaller Cake Slices. The setup is usually easy to spot because of the balloons and other decorations around the area.

Your main job: get to the cake before another player eats all the slices.

For the Fortnite 9th Birthday event, these are the main Chapter 7 Season 4 locations with Birthday Cakes:

LocationBirthday Cake Details
Lifty LodgeHas a Birthday Cake you can search for during the celebration.
Latte LandingAnother spot where you’ll find the birthday setup.
WonkeelandAlso has a Birthday Cake for the event.
Chopped ShopAnother POI where the giant cake can appear.
BattlewoodsOn the current list of Birthday Cake locations.
Cluster CanyonHas a Birthday Cake location too.
Sunken ShoresAnother Named Location where you can look for the cake.
Heatwave HarborRounds out the main Chapter 7 Season 4 list.

These cakes are placed around named POIs, so you can head straight to one instead of wasting time combing the whole island.

Where to Find Birthday Cake in Fortnite OG

Fortnite OG matters a lot here. If you’re chasing the Cake Slice quest and the consumables aren’t showing up in regular Battle Royale, OG is where you want to be.

The OG locations that have Birthday Cake are:

LocationBirthday Cake Details
Junk JunctionOne of the most practical picks because it sits near the edge of the map and is fairly isolated.
Pleasant ParkAnother Named Location where you can search for a Birthday Cake.
Loot LakeOne of the OG locations where Birthday Cakes can be found.
Shifty ShaftsGives you another Named Location to check.
Salty SpringsAlso on the list of Birthday Cake locations.
Fatal FieldsAnother POI where you can look for the cake.
Paradise PalmsA useful option when you’re hunting Cake Slices in OG.
Happy HamletAnother location that works for a cake run.

Best landing spot for a quest-only run: If you just want to finish the quest without getting pulled into a messy fight, Junk Junction is a great landing spot. It’s more isolated than a lot of other POIs, so you have a better shot at reaching the cake without fighting half the lobby right away.

Happy Hamlet, Paradise Palms, and Pleasant Park are solid alternatives too.

What to Look for at a Birthday Cake Location

Once you land, don’t burn your first minute opening every chest in the POI.

Look for the giant Birthday Cake first.

The Cake Slices you need are placed around the main cake. They show up as individual pieces of cake with candles on them, usually sitting on plates. Once you spot the big cake, check the area around it carefully, because the slices are what actually count toward your quest.

The birthday decorations and balloons also help you recognize the spot from a distance.

Shortcut: If you’re trying to finish the quest quickly, go straight for the Birthday Cake before you do a full loot run. Everyone else in your match is after the same free rewards.

Why You Might Reach the Location and Find No Cake Slices

This is where the quest gets frustrating.

The Birthday Cake location stays put, but the Cake Slices may already be gone by the time you get there. Other players can beat you to the area and eat them.

So you can land at the right spot and still find an empty cake.

Here’s why that happens:

  • Another player reached the cake before you and consumed the available slices.
  • You arrived at the correct POI, but there were no Cake Slices left.
  • You may need to visit a different Birthday Cake location instead of searching the same area over and over.
  • Starting another match can sometimes be faster than waiting around for a cake that’s already been cleared.

Pick isolated over popular: For a quest run, an isolated location is way more useful than dropping into a heavily contested POI. You’re not trying to win a fight over a slice of cake. You’re trying to get four slices and be done.

Warning: The quest specifically asks for Cake Slices found at Named Locations. If you’re going for quest progress, stick to the listed POIs instead of assuming every cake or landmark on the map will count.

What Do Birthday Cake Slices Look Like in Fortnite?

Finding the right POI is only half the job. Once you land, you need to recognize the Birthday Cake and the Cake Slices fast, before another player gets there.

The easiest way to spot the event setup is to look for a large Birthday Cake surrounded by birthday decorations. You should also see smaller pieces of cake placed around the main cake.

The Cake Slices look like individual pieces of birthday cake with candles on top, sitting on plates. These are the consumable items you need for the Birthday Cake quest.

Keep these things in mind while you search:

What You’re Looking AtWhat to Know
Giant Birthday CakeYour main landmark, so look for it before you start checking individual buildings or chests. The cake itself isn’t what goes in your inventory.
Cake SlicesPlaced around the large cake, so check the ground and the area right around it. These smaller slices are the items you consume.
Balloons and birthday decorationsHelp you confirm the location once you get close.

Don’t second-guess the location: You may find fewer slices than expected if another player got there first, so don’t assume the location is wrong just because the cake area looks partly cleared.

Do Birthday Cake Slices Spawn Randomly?

No. The Birthday Cake setup shows up at fixed locations, which makes planning a quest run a lot easier.

You can land at a known Birthday Cake POI, look for the large cake, and check around it for the slices instead of searching the whole island.

The catch is that a fixed location doesn’t guarantee every slice will still be there when you arrive. Other players can consume them first.

Best move: Land near the cake and check it right away.

Can You See Birthday Cake From Far Away?

The large cake is much easier to notice than the individual Cake Slices.

As you approach a Birthday Cake location, look for the big birthday-themed structure and the decorations around it first. Once you reach it, search around the base for the smaller slices.

That’s a lot faster than trying to pick out individual slices while you’re running around the POI.

Rule of thumb: Treat the giant cake as your landmark and the small slices as the quest items. Find the big cake first, then worry about the slices.

How to Eat Birthday Cake Slices in Fortnite

Once you find the giant Birthday Cake, eating the slices is simple. The thing to know is that Birthday Cake works differently from normal consumables.

You don’t pick up a slice and stash it in your inventory. You walk up to the Cake Slice, look directly at it, and use the Consume prompt.

Here’s how to eat Birthday Cake slices in Fortnite:

  1. Land at a Named Location with a Birthday Cake. Head for the large cake instead of looting the whole POI.
  2. Look around the giant cake. The smaller Cake Slices should be placed around the main birthday cake.
  3. Walk directly up to a Cake Slice. Make sure your character is looking at it so the interaction prompt appears.
  4. Press the Consume button shown on your screen. The exact button depends on your platform and your current control settings.
  5. Repeat for the remaining slices. You need to eat four Cake Slices for the Birthday Cake quest.

Remember: The slice is consumed immediately. There’s no inventory slot involved, so you can’t grab one now and save it for a later fight.

Troubleshooting: don’t see the Consume prompt?
In previous Birthday events, you couldn’t eat a slice while your Health and Shield were already full. That’s one more reason to go for the cake right at the start of the match, before you’ve healed up. Your shields usually aren’t full yet, so the slices go down without a problem.

If you’re already topped off, take a bit of damage first and try again.

How Much Health and Shield Does Birthday Cake Restore?

Each Birthday Cake slice restores:

Per SliceAmount
Health10
Shield10

That makes the cake useful even when you aren’t working on the Birthday Quest. You can use the slices to recover a bit of health and shield while you gear up at the start of a match.

You can also eat multiple slices, so the cake can restore more of your missing Health and Shield. Just remember that you need some Health or Shield missing for a slice to work.

Tip: If you stumble on a cake while your health or shields are low, there’s a real reason to eat the slices instead of treating them as quest-only items.

Can You Carry Birthday Cake in Your Inventory?

No. Birthday Cake slices can’t be picked up and stored in your inventory.

They’re consumed on the spot, right where you find them.

What You Can’t DoWhat Actually Happens
Find Cake Slice > Pick it up > Save it for laterFind Cake Slice > Consume it immediately > Continue the match

This is also why you shouldn’t walk away from the cake area planning to come back later. Another player may get there first and eat whatever slices are left.

Tip: If you’re doing the quest, eat the slices as soon as you find them. Leaving them on the ground gets you nothing.

What Happens After You Eat a Cake Slice?

  • Right away, your character gets the Health and Shield restoration.
  • The Birthday Quest tracks your progress toward the four-slice requirement.
  • The moment you consume the fourth qualifying slice, you can check your quest progress and move on.

You don’t have to eat all four slices from the same cake unless that’s the most convenient way to do it. What matters for the quest is that the slices you eat come from Named Locations that qualify for the objective.

Why this matters: That distinction comes up if you find Birthday Cake while exploring somewhere that isn’t a Named Location.

How Many Birthday Cake Slices Do You Need in Fortnite?

You need to eat four Birthday Cake slices to finish the Birthday Cake objective.

It sounds simple, but one detail can waste a whole match: the quest specifically requires slices found at Named Locations.

So if you come across a Cake Slice somewhere while you’re exploring the island, don’t automatically assume it’ll count.

You Need Four Cake Slices at Named Locations

The quest requirement is:

Eat four slices of Birthday Cake found at Named Locations.

The safest way to finish it is to land directly at one of the known Birthday Cake POIs and eat the slices around the giant cake there.

For example, you can:

  1. Land at Junk Junction in Fortnite OG and look for the giant Birthday Cake.
  2. Eat the Cake Slices placed around the cake at that Named Location.
  3. Repeat until you’ve eaten four qualifying slices.
  4. Check your Birthday Quest progress to make sure all four slices counted.

You can potentially knock out the whole objective in a single visit when enough slices are available around the cake.

Why one visit beats several: That beats eating one slice, leaving, and then spending another match hunting for the other three.

Do All Four Slices Have to Come From the Same Cake?

Don’t overcomplicate this one.

What matters is that the slices you eat are from qualifying Named Locations. If another player has already eaten some of the slices at your first location, move on to another Birthday Cake location instead of wasting time searching an empty area.

In other words:

Four qualifying Cake Slices = Quest complete.

You aren’t collecting four cakes, and you don’t need four separate POIs.

How Many Slices Can You Find Around One Cake?

A Birthday Cake can have around four Cake Slices around it. That’s enough to finish the objective in one location when nobody else has already eaten them.

That’s why picking your landing spot matters.

  • If you reach a cake first and all the slices are there, eat the four you need and get out.
  • If you show up late and only one or two slices are left, there’s no point waiting around.

Tip: On a quest run, you’re not defending the cake. Eat what’s available, and if another player has already cleared it, move to another location.

What Happens After You Eat All Four Slices?

Once you’ve eaten the required four Cake Slices at Named Locations, the Birthday Cake quest should register as complete.

The quest rewards 5,000 XP, which gives you another chunk of progress toward your Battle Pass and moves you closer to the event’s free cosmetic rewards.

After that, you can stop looking for Birthday Cake and focus on the rest of the Birthday Celebration Quests.

The whole route boils down to this:
Land at a qualifying POI > find the giant cake > eat four slices > confirm the quest > move on.

How to Track Your Birthday Cake Quest Progress

You don’t have to guess whether the game counted your Cake Slices. Fortnite lets you check your active quests from the Quests tab, both in the lobby and during a match.

To keep an eye on the Birthday Cake objective:

  1. Open Fortnite and go to the Quests tab in the lobby before you start your match.
  2. Find the Birthday/Celebration Quest that asks you to eat Birthday Cake slices at Named Locations.
  3. Check the progress beside the objective before you drop. That gives you a clear starting point, so you know whether earlier slices already counted.
  4. Land at a qualifying Named Location and eat the Cake Slices around the Birthday Cake.
  5. Reopen the Quests tab during the match if you want to confirm your progress updated.
  6. Keep going until the counter hits four completed slices. Once the objective is done, stop searching for more cake.

Fortnite’s Quest system lets you view available quests and their progress, though the exact quest categories you see can vary depending on the Fortnite experience you’re playing.

What If Your Progress Doesn’t Increase?

If you eat a slice and the counter doesn’t move, don’t jump to the conclusion that the quest is broken. Run through these checks:

  • Check whether the slice was actually eaten and whether the location meets the Named Location requirement.
  • Check whether your Health and Shield were full if you couldn’t eat the slice at all.
  • Check your mode. If you’re in a mode where the Cake Slices aren’t appearing right now, switching to the right Fortnite experience can matter too.

Safest habit: Check the quest counter after every one or two slices. That way you catch a counting problem right away instead of finding out after the match that none of your progress registered.

Why Is Birthday Cake Not Showing Up in Fortnite Battle Royale?

You can land at the right location, find the giant Birthday Cake, and still have nothing to eat. It’s a weird feeling.

That’s what happened during the early rollout of the 9th Birthday event. The Birthday Cake decorations were showing up in Battle Royale, but the actual Cake Slice consumables were missing for some players. Since the quest specifically requires you to eat the slices, that made the objective temporarily impossible to finish in that mode.

Before you queue again: Make sure the Cake Slices are actually available in the mode you’re playing, instead of spending another match checking the same POI.

Try Fortnite OG If Cake Slices Are Missing

During that initial Battle Royale issue, Fortnite OG was the practical workaround because the Cake Slices were available there.

The easiest way to handle it was:

  1. Switch to Fortnite OG instead of checking Battle Royale over and over.
  2. Land at a Named Location with a Birthday Cake, such as Junk Junction, Pleasant Park, Loot Lake, Shifty Shafts, Salty Springs, Fatal Fields, or Paradise Palms.
  3. Find the giant cake and check around it for the smaller Cake Slices.
  4. Eat four slices and check your quest progress to make sure the objective is registering.

The issue was tied to the early event rollout, so mode availability can change after Epic updates the game. Before you queue another match, check your current quest description and see whether the Cake Slices are actually appearing.

Warning: Seeing the giant Birthday Cake doesn’t guarantee the consumable slices are there. Check the area right away, and switch modes instead of burning several matches on an item that isn’t spawning.

How to Complete the Fortnite Birthday Cake Quest Quickly

You don’t need to turn this into a full Battle Royale session.

If all you want is the Birthday Cake objective, play the match differently than you normally would. Your priority is quest progress, not perfect loot or a high elimination count.

Here’s the route:

  1. Pick a Named Location with a cake. Choose a location where you already know a Birthday Cake can be found. In Fortnite OG, Junk Junction is especially handy because it’s relatively isolated and sits near the edge of the map.
  2. Drop as close to the cake as possible. Once you leave the Battle Bus, don’t spend your first few minutes opening every chest you see. Your first objective is to reach the giant Birthday Cake. Getting there early also means your Health and Shield aren’t full yet, so the slices will actually go down.
  3. Check around the cake immediately. The smaller Cake Slices are placed around the main cake, so search the immediate area before you move deeper into the POI.
  4. Eat the available slices. Interact with each Cake Slice and use the Consume prompt. You need four qualifying slices for the quest.
  5. Check your quest progress. After a slice or two, open the Quests tab and confirm the counter is going up. That beats finishing a whole match and discovering the game didn’t register the location or mode you used.
  6. Leave the area when the cake is cleared. If another player has already eaten most of the slices, don’t stand around waiting. Move to another Birthday Cake location or just start another match.

The fastest Birthday Cake run: Treat it like a quick mission: land, find the cake, eat four slices, verify the counter, and move on.

What If Another Player Eats the Birthday Cake Slices First?

This is probably the most irritating part of what should be an easy quest.

You can do everything right and still get there too late because someone else already consumed the slices.

When that happens, don’t keep searching the same location. The cake is the landmark you were looking for, and if the slices around it are gone, your time is better spent moving on.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Check another Birthday Cake at the same POI if the location has another cake setup.
  • Move to another Named Location with a known Birthday Cake.
  • Start a fresh match if the current cake area has already been cleared.
  • Choose a less-contested landing spot in your next match so you reach the cake before everyone else.

Why Junk Junction works: A spot like Junk Junction works well for a quest-only run. You’re cutting down the number of players competing with you instead of landing in the busiest part of the map on purpose.

Do You Need to Win the Match After Completing the Cake Quest?

No.

Once the game registers the required four Birthday Cake slices, the Cake quest is done.

You can keep playing normally, but there’s no reason to keep hunting for cake just because you still have time left in the match.

The cake still works as a healing item, though. Each slice restores 10 Health and 10 Shield, so any leftover slices can help if you need to recover before rotating out of the area.

Knowing when to stop:
Four qualifying slices eaten > quest completed > no more cake hunting required.

All Fortnite Birthday Quest Rewards

The Birthday Cake quest is one of nine Birthday Celebration Quests. Completing them gives you XP and counts toward the event’s free cosmetic rewards.

Birthday Quests CompletedReward
3 QuestsChoco-9 Cake Back Bling
6 QuestsCake Crusher Pickaxe
9 QuestsFNCS Sentry Back Bling

The rewards unlock at the quest milestones shown above, so finishing all nine quests gets you the full Birthday Quest reward track.

How Much XP Do Birthday Quests Give?

XP DetailAmount
Each Birthday Quest5,000 XP
All nine quests combined45,000 XP
Birthday Cake objective on its own5,000 XP once you complete the requirement

That XP can also help your Battle Pass and OG Pass progression during the event.

How Many Birthday Quests Do You Need to Complete?

There are nine Birthday Quests available during the celebration.

You don’t have to finish all nine to hit a cosmetic milestone. Your progress depends on the total number of quests you complete.

  • If you only want some of the free rewards, you can stop once you reach the milestone you’re after.
  • If you’re going for the complete reward track, you’ll need to finish all nine.

Can You Complete the Birthday Quests in Any Order?

Yes. You can do the Birthday Quests in whatever order works for your matches.

You can also make progress on multiple objectives in the same match. For example, you can land at a Named Location, search containers, visit other Named Locations, and work on the Birthday Cake objective without treating each quest like its own separate game.

That makes it a lot easier to finish the event before the deadline.

Fortnite Birthday Quest Limits and Deadline

The Birthday Quests are limited-time objectives tied to the 9th Birthday celebration.

The event runs from September 21 through October 1, 2026, so your window to complete the quests and claim the rewards is limited.

The main limits to remember:

LimitDetail
Total Birthday QuestsNine
First cosmetic milestoneThree completed quests
Second cosmetic milestoneSix completed quests
Final cosmetic milestoneNine completed quests
XP per quest5,000 XP
AvailabilityQuest and reward progression is tied to the limited-time birthday event

Tip: The event doesn’t run forever, so it’s smarter to knock out the easier objectives early instead of saving the whole reward track for the final day.

Two timing details are worth knowing:

  • Launch-day unlock: On launch day, some of the Birthday quests and rewards didn’t unlock until 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET on September 21 (that’s 6:30 PM IST), when Mastery Monday began.
  • End-of-event timing: Past Birthday events have ended in the morning on the final day. Last year’s ended at 9 AM ET on September 30. So don’t count on having every hour of October 1, and don’t leave your last quests for the final stretch.

What Happens If You Don’t Complete All Nine Quests?

You keep the progress you earned and receive the reward milestones you reached during the event.

  • Finishing three quests gets you the first reward milestone.
  • Finishing six gets you the second.
  • You only need to keep going to nine if you want to complete the entire Birthday Quest progression.

Tip: Check your Quests tab regularly so you know how many objectives you still have left before the event ends.

All Fortnite Birthday Celebration Quests

The Birthday Cake quest is only one of the objectives in Fortnite’s 9th Birthday celebration. There are nine Birthday Quests in total, and you can work through them in any order.

That helps, because you don’t have to play every match for one specific challenge. Several objectives will happen naturally while you’re already playing.

Here are all the Birthday Celebration Quests:

Birthday QuestRequirement
DanceUse an Emote during a match
Eliminate Opponents While ADSingEliminate 2 opponents while aiming down sights
Throw Birthday PresentsThrow 3 Birthday Presents
Eat Slices of Birthday Cake at Named LocationsEat 4 Cake Slices
Use BalloonsUse (deploy) 5 Balloons
Hit HeadshotsHit 6 headshots
Search ContainersSearch 7 containers
Visit Different Named Locations in a MatchVisit 8 different Named Locations in a single match
Wish the Bus Driver a Happy BirthdayWish the Bus Driver a happy birthday 9 times

Which Birthday Quests Are Easiest?

Some of these objectives you can finish without changing how you normally play.

Dancing with an Emote takes almost no effort, and searching containers and visiting Named Locations can happen naturally during a regular match.

The Birthday Cake objective is a little different, because you have to find specific locations and consume four Cake Slices.

The practical move is to stack quests whenever you can:

  • Visit Named Locations while you’re searching for Birthday Cake, instead of traveling to separate areas for each objective.
  • Search containers while you’re looting around the Birthday Cake location.
  • Hit headshots and get ADS eliminations during normal fights after you finish the cake objective.
  • Use Balloons and throw Birthday Presents when you come across those items during the celebration.
  • Wish the Bus Driver a happy birthday before you drop into multiple matches while you work through the other objectives.

Wish the Bus Driver: which button? In last year’s event, this used the Thank the Bus Driver button while you’re still on the Battle Bus:

PlatformButton
PCB
ConsoleD-pad down
MobileEmote button

Heads-up: Last year’s quest only needed it once, and this year’s asks for nine, so check the counter after your first bus ride to see how it’s counting.

That way you keep moving through the Birthday event without turning every quest into its own checklist.

Do You Have to Complete Every Birthday Quest?

No, you can stop once you reach the reward milestone you’re aiming for.

That said, the final milestone requires the entire set. If you want every cosmetic tied to the Birthday Quest track, you’ll have to work through all nine objectives.

For the Birthday Cake objective, you only need to focus on one requirement:

Find qualifying Named Locations → eat four Cake Slices → verify the quest progress.

Once that counter is full, there’s no reason to keep searching for Birthday Cakes for this quest.

When Does the Fortnite 9th Birthday Event End?

Fortnite’s 9th Birthday celebration is a limited-time event, so you only have a short window to finish the Birthday Quests and collect the rewards.

The celebration starts on September 21, 2026 and runs until October 1, 2026. The Birthday content is scheduled to leave as the annual Fortnitemares event arrives.

That gives you a little over a week to finish the quests, which is plenty of time if you work on them alongside your normal matches instead of saving everything for the last day.

The important dates:

DateWhat Happens
September 21, 2026The 9th Birthday celebration begins.
September 26, 2026 (Saturday)The Birthday Sprite becomes available as an additional birthday feature.
October 1, 2026The Birthday celebration ends, leading into the annual Fortnitemares event.

Seeing a different Sprite date? You may see September 24 listed on some sites because that’s the day of the New Sprite Day update, but Epic’s own update notes give September 26 for the Birthday Sprite.

Don’t Leave the Birthday Cake Quest Until the Last Day

The Birthday Cake objective looks like one of the easiest quests in the event, but it can take longer than you’d expect if you keep landing at contested locations or run into missing Cake Slices.

That’s why you should get it done early.

You only need four Cake Slices at Named Locations, so once you know where to look, there’s no reason to put it off.

A simple plan:
Choose a Birthday Cake location → land there early → eat four slices → check your quest progress → move on to another Birthday Quest.

Backup plan: If the slices aren’t available in your current mode, check whether Fortnite OG has them before you spend several more matches trying the same location.

What Is the Birthday Sprite in Fortnite?

The 9th Birthday celebration also includes a Birthday Sprite, which is separate from the main Birthday Quest progression.

The Birthday Sprite is part of the extra event content coming during the celebration, and it’s scheduled to arrive later rather than being available the moment the birthday event starts.

So don’t mix up the Birthday Sprite with the three cosmetics you earn through the Birthday Quest milestone system.

The easiest way to keep up with the event is to check the in-game Quests and event tabs after each update. Fortnite can add or change temporary event content during the celebration, and the in-game info is the fastest way to see what’s currently available.

Remember: The Birthday Cake quest and the Birthday Sprite are separate pieces of the 9th Birthday celebration, so finishing the cake objective won’t automatically unlock every birthday item.

How to Get the Birthday Sprite in Fortnite

The Birthday Sprite is its own part of Fortnite’s 9th Birthday celebration. You don’t unlock it by completing the Birthday Cake quest or by hitting one of the Birthday Quest reward milestones.

The Birthday Sprite becomes available on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Until then, you can’t collect it from a match.

Once it goes live, you get the Birthday Sprite during a match. You can’t claim it straight from the Item Shop or the Birthday Quest menu.

The key points:

  • The Birthday Sprite is a Rare Sprite introduced as part of Chapter 7 Season 4’s Sprite system.
  • You can’t unlock it by completing the nine Birthday Quests, because those quests have their own separate cosmetic rewards.
  • The Birthday Sprite becomes available on September 26, 2026.
  • Once it’s available, you need to find and extract the Sprite from a match instead of just claiming it from the lobby.
  • The Birthday Sprite has a special ability that gives Chests a chance to produce Cake Slices, and that chance goes up as the Sprite levels up.
  • At its maximum level, eliminations can also produce Cake Slices.

How to Find and Extract the Birthday Sprite

Once September 26 arrives, here’s how the hunt works:

  1. Get into a match and look for Sprites the way you would this season. Most Sprites come from Cheat Code Chests around the island. You open one by entering the Cheat Code shown on the chest. Each chest hands you a random Sprite, and the chest color tells you the rarity: Chest ColorSprite RarityBlueRarePurpleEpicGoldLegendary
  2. Keep the high ground in mind. Epic’s own Sprite description points to high, mountainous areas for the Birthday Sprite.
  3. Hold on to the Sprite until you can extract it. A Sprite you’re carrying isn’t in your collection yet, and if you’re eliminated first, you lose it.
  4. Extract it. You have two options: Extraction OptionHow It WorksExtraction SiteHead to a site marked on the map, interact with the terminal to call in an Extraction Crate, and use the Extract Inventory Sprites prompt when it lands. Calling the crate alerts nearby players, so hold the area.Portable ExtractorTakes about five seconds to channel and doesn’t broadcast your position.
  5. Check your Sprite collection after the match. A Victory Royale also extracts every Sprite you’re carrying automatically.

Do Sprite-spawned slices count for the quest? The Birthday Sprite’s cake comes from chests and eliminations instead of a cake stand, and Epic’s update notes don’t say whether those slices count toward the Named Location quest. For the quest, stick to the cakes at Named Locations.

Don’t Confuse the Birthday Sprite With the Birthday Sprite Spray

There’s also a 9th Birthday Sprite Spray, and it’s a completely different reward.

The Sprite Spray is tied to the Chapter 7 Season 4 Lobby Hack/Admin Panel code system, while the Birthday Sprite is an in-match Sprite. The code doesn’t unlock the actual Sprite. Epic reveals the Spray’s code during the event, so keep an eye on the in-game Lobby Hack/Admin Panel info.

Keep the two straight:

RewardHow You Get It
Birthday SpriteFound in a match from September 26
Birthday Sprite SprayA separate cosmetic reward

Warning: If you’re reading this before September 26, don’t waste matches looking for the Birthday Sprite. It isn’t available yet.

Fortnite Birthday Cake FAQs

Can I Carry Birthday Cake in My Inventory?

No. Birthday Cake Slices can’t be picked up and stored in your inventory. You have to consume them where you find them.

Tip: If you’re going for the quest, eat the slices when you find them instead of expecting to save them for later.

What Does Birthday Cake Do in Fortnite?

Each Birthday Cake Slice restores 10 Health and 10 Shield.

You can consume multiple slices, so the cake helps you recover missing health and shields while you work toward the Birthday Cake quest.

How Many Birthday Cake Slices Do I Need?

You need to eat four Cake Slices to finish the Birthday Cake objective.

The slices have to be found at Named Locations for the quest to count them.

Do All Four Cake Slices Have to Come From One Location?

No. Nothing says you need four different Named Locations. When enough slices are available around one Birthday Cake, you can potentially finish the objective in a single visit.

Tip: Landing at a spot with a full set of available slices is the quickest approach.

Why Are My Birthday Cake Slices Missing?

There are a few reasons you might not see or be able to eat the slices:

  • Another player may have already consumed them.
  • You may be playing in a mode where the Cake Slice consumables aren’t currently available.
  • If the slices are there but you can’t eat them, your Health and Shield may already be full.

During the early Birthday event rollout, some Battle Royale players could see the large cakes but not the consumable slices. In that situation, Fortnite OG was the practical alternative.

Can Other Players Eat the Birthday Cake Slices?

Yes. Other players can consume the slices before you get to them.

So a fixed Birthday Cake location doesn’t guarantee the slices will still be there when you arrive.

Tip: If you get there and the cake is already cleared, moving to another location or starting another match is usually faster than waiting around.

Does Every Cake Location Count for the Birthday Cake Quest?

The quest specifically asks for Cake Slices found at Named Locations.

So the safest approach is to visit a recognized Named Location or POI with a Birthday Cake instead of relying on an isolated landmark.

How Do I Know Whether My Cake Slices Counted?

Open the Quests tab and check the Birthday/Celebration Quest progress.

You should see the counter go up as qualifying Cake Slices are consumed.

Tip: It’s worth checking your progress during the match, especially if you’re using a different mode or location, so you don’t finish a match only to find the objective didn’t register.

Is Birthday Cake Available in Fortnite OG?

Yes. Fortnite OG is especially important for the Birthday Cake objective because Cake Slices were available there during the early Battle Royale availability problem.

If you’re playing Battle Royale and the giant cake is there but the slices are missing, OG is the first alternative to try.

When Does the Fortnite Birthday Cake Event End?

The 9th Birthday celebration runs from September 21 until October 1, 2026.

The Birthday Quests and their rewards are tied to the limited-time celebration, so finish the objectives before the event ends.

Can I Still Complete the Birthday Cake Quest After the Event Ends?

The Birthday Cake objective is part of the limited-time Birthday celebration, so don’t count on being able to complete it after the event is over.

Safest move: Finish the quest and claim the available event rewards before October 1, 2026.

Is the Birthday Sprite the Same as the Birthday Cake Quest Reward?

No. The Birthday Sprite is separate from the Birthday Quest reward progression.

Finishing the Cake Slice objective doesn’t automatically unlock the Birthday Sprite, and you shouldn’t confuse the Sprite with the three cosmetics tied to completing Birthday Quests.

What Is the Fastest Way to Finish the Birthday Cake Quest?

The quickest method is simple:

Choose a Named Location with a Birthday Cake → land close to it → find the Cake Slices → eat four → check your quest progress → leave.

If another player already took the slices, don’t spend the rest of the match searching an empty area. Move to another cake location or start a fresh match and try again.

Fortnite Birthday Cake Quest: What You Actually Need to Do

The Fortnite Birthday Cake quest gets a lot easier once you stop treating it like a map-wide scavenger hunt.

You only need four Cake Slices from Named Locations. The fastest route is to pick a known Birthday Cake location, land nearby, and check the area around the giant cake right away.

The basic plan:
Land at a Named Location → Find the giant Birthday Cake → Eat four Cake Slices → Check your quest progress → Move on.

The main thing that can slow you down is other players getting there first. If the slices are already gone, don’t waste the whole match searching an empty area. Pick another cake location or start a new match.

And if the Cake Slices are missing from Battle Royale, check Fortnite OG instead of hitting the same POI over and over.

Once your four slices count, the quest is finished and you can turn your attention to the rest of the Fortnite 9th Birthday Celebration Quests. The event is only around for a limited time, so getting this one out of the way early beats leaving it for the final day.

Find the cake, eat the four slices, verify the counter, and get back to playing.
