Unlocking the Shadow Crystal: Why You Need Pink Coins in Deltarune Chapter 5

If you want to experience everything the Festival Day update has to offer, you are going to need a healthy stash of this special currency. When you visit the Cliff Shop, you will quickly realize the vendor does not accept your standard Dark Dollars for their most valuable item.

To purchase the Mystery Key, you need to hand over exactly 10 pink coins.

What does the Mystery Key do? It unlocks the giant, locked Pink door hidden deep inside the Flower Castle. Behind this door awaits Pink, the Shadow Crystal secret boss of Chapter 5. If you have been following the community theories on Reddit or Discord, you might recognize Pink as a new, formidable version of the irritable ghost/catgirl action figure, Mad Mew Mew. Defeating her is entirely optional, but it offers some of the best lore and rewards in the game.

The Ultimate Scavenger Hunt: All 19 Deltarune Pink Coins Locations Revealed

Before you start hunting, make sure you have defeated the Aqua boss to secure the Petal Feather. This item is mandatory, as it activates the 2D platforming sections you need to reach almost all of these collectibles.

Deltarune Pink Coin Guide

Keep your eyes peeled for pink chests, hanging pink bells, and breakable pink lanterns.

Deltarune Garden Pink Coin Locations

You can find four coins hidden in the starting Garden area. These are great for practicing your new jump mechanics.

  1. The Watering Can Path: Grab the watering can near the giant scissors. Head back one screen to the left and water the ground to reveal a hidden path. Follow the river upward to find your first pink chest.
  2. The Petal Feather Shrine: Return to the shrine entrance where you found the Petal Feather. Hit the platform-mode switch, climb the leafy platforms to the left, cross over the temple roof, and jump to the right to ring a hidden pink bell.
  3. The Torii Gate Run: At the “End of Garden” warp door, hit the platform switch and head left until you clear the Aqua bullet encounter. Keep running left through the torii gates to find a bell at the very end.
  4. Hopschef’s Minigame: To the right of the Hopschef area, survive the quick platforming sequence and dash right through the Torii Gate to claim the chest.

The Cliffs Locations

The Cliffs area holds four more coins, and you will rely heavily on Susie and Ralsei’s environmental abilities to grab them.

  1. Ralsei’s Vine Lift: In the first platforming cave, ride the dangling vine upward. Jump off halfway up to the left to smack the bell.
  2. The Water Dispenser: Climb the falling peach section until you reach the buried bunny. Interact with it to spawn new vines, climb right, and let the water hit you to reveal the coin.
  3. Susie’s Wind Tunnel: Climb the vine and spin the windmill. Hook onto the moving Hookflowers, bounce up on the mushroom, clear the combat encounter, and grab the bell to your right.
  4. The Neskie Dash Challenge: Head to the Netskie Climb. Note: You can only get this on a return visit. Complete the dash challenges inside the cave to reach the Pink Bell at the end.

Flower Castle Pink Coins (East & West Wings)

This is where the hunt gets tough. The massive Flower Castle hides 9 coins behind complex puzzles.

  • The Terakota Puzzle: In the East Castle, find the room with the clay Terakota warriors. Push the statues off the edge, drop down, and place them onto the pressure plates to spawn a bridge to the chest.
  • The Fox Puzzle: You need to collect 5 hidden foxes around the statue and side rooms (check behind paper screens and in the moving paws!). Bring them to the room above Green’s Café to reveal a pink chest.
  • Boxing Glove Lanterns: When navigating the pillar with rotating boxing gloves, use Susie to hit a glove directly into the breakable paper screen. Inside, use another glove to smash the hidden pink lantern.
  • Orange Door Ledge: Solve the block puzzle next to the Orange door by making an “L” shape with the vertical block to reach the bell above.
  • Shinobeetle Path: In the West Castle, head down after Blue’s room and navigate to the very end of the Shinobeetle corridor.
  • Yellow’s Climb: Enter Yellow’s second room, move to the far right, and platform your way to the very top.
  • Plus three additional coins: Keep an eye out for optional side-room block puzzles located just off the main hallways in both the East and West wings.

Top of the Castle & The Pink Door

The final two coins are practically handed to you as you approach the endgame.

  1. Above Green’s Shop: Leave Green’s Shop at the Top of Castle, head right, and swap to platforming. Launch yourself up using a flower, traverse the gap, and ring the bell waiting at the end.
  2. Outside the Secret Boss: After the descending pinwheel sequence, you will land in a new area. Take the left path just outside the massive Pink Door, platform to the end without getting hit, and claim the final coin.

Work Smarter, Not Harder: Tips for the Hardest Puzzles (From the Community)

If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a deep breath. Players sharing their experiences across Reddit and Steam communities all agree on one major tip: finish the main campaign first.

Beating the story unlocks a magic fast-travel door at the top of Flower Castle. Having fast travel turns a frustrating, three-hour marathon across the map into a breezy 20-minute cleanup job.

Additionally, since you are prepping to fight Pink anyway, make sure to stock up on healing items while you backtrack. Grab some TreeCake (by breaking the HopsChef’s bread) or GreenTea—they provide excellent healing and crucial DokiDoki points for the secret boss’s dating phase!

Now that you know exactly where to find pink coins in Deltarune Chapter 5, it is time to boot up your game and grab that Mystery Key.
